The Crossroads Project is looking for a volunteer Trustee who could take on some of the responsibilities of upgrading and organisation of our IT systems.

Ideally the volunteer would be someone with experience or an interest in IT and administration. We are in the process of consolidating IT/admin systems across the Project including the Advice Centre, Foodbank and Charity Shop. We have retained the services of a professional IT operator who would happily provide support and training.

2024 Ask Meltham

The 2024 Ask Meltham campaign is now LIVE! Over the next 4 weeks you will start to see volunteers, and they want to start conversations with YOU!
We also have 4 drop in sessions where you will find Meltham Town Councillors, Kirklees Councillors and volunteers, all wanting to chat to you about how good our town is, and what its like to live in Meltham.

Holme Valley Lions kind donation

Lovely Gill from Holme Valley Lions came to see us last week, because she’s been on a mission…

Having been a single mum, she knows all about the importance of women’s products when you’re on a tight budget, so she’s done something about it. She’s fought for a big donation of sanitary towels, got it, and come to see us with the spoils.

Women and girls have been either doing without, or using them for too long, causing toxic shock syndrome. When you’re struggling to buy groceries and pay fuel bills, something has to give.

She’ll be coming to see us shortly with part two of this donation

I sat in the Citizens Advice Bureau wondering how my situation had come to this. I was educated and used to have a career, a good income and had a beautiful young daughter who I thanked God for every day. I was the sole provider for my small family. However, that girl was gone. As I sat in the waiting room, I was now someone who was the victim of domestic abuse, had no job, and no income. I was scared, anxious and tearful. The bills were piling up and I had no resources to cope with them or the emotional strength to face the never-ending accompanying paperwork. Leaving the scoundrel I married had taken its toll on a very practical level. The man at CAB suggested I made a phone call to someone called “Chris”. I did from their office.

Chris reassured me that everything would be ok and to visit him the next day. I did. Chris demonstrated a lot of empathy to my situation and started to advise me of the benefit system. He offered me food, I refused! As I left the meeting feeling like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders; he said I don’t care what you say someone will be around tonight with food! This happened and I couldn’t believe the amount and quality of food that was delivered. I was incredibly grateful.
